Common Causes of Car Crashes and How to Avoid Them

Have you or a loved one been involved in a car accident? No matter a person’s driving experience, anyone can get into a car accident. Of course, car accidents can lead to catastrophic consequences, which include fatal injuries, such as head or leg injuries, loss of earnings and more.

As a new driver, you need to understand the factors that may lead to car accidents. Knowing these causes can help you prevent a fatal car accident:

Distracted driving

Distracted driving is the number one cause of car accidents. Generally speaking, a distracted driver is someone who diverts attention from the road by engaging in other activities, such as texting while driving.

Whether you are eating food or using your phone, distracted driving could put your life in danger. Not to mention, your actions can be hazardous to the safety of fellow passengers and pedestrians.

Avoid using your phone while driving. Stay vigilant, calm and focused.

Many young drivers love the thrill of driving at maximum speed. But, driving above the speed limit can kill. Keep an eye on the speed limit while driving and do not cross it.

Drunk driving

Drinking makes it difficult to focus and function properly. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is risky and can result in an accident.

If you have been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you may have to pay a hefty fine. If you have had some drinks, ask someone else to drive for you.

Crossing red lights

Running a red light can increase your risk of an accident. Check both ways for traffic as you approach the green signal. When you see a red light, stop your car.

Night driving

Driving at night can be challenging because of low visibility. Always keep your vehicle’s headlights one while driving at night.
